Looking for money for college? There are scholarships available for students with all sorts of skill sets, not just the highest achievers! Here are some of the possibilities out there:

Scholarships for 2019-20

SD Chinese Women's Association Scholarship

Every year, the San Diego Chinese Women's Association awards scholarships of $1,000 or $1,500 to selected outstanding students of Chinese descent who are graduating high school in San Diego County. Scholarships are open to both male and female applicants of at least one-quarter Chinese descent.

An application can be downloaded from the Association's website at http://sdcwa.net/scholarships/. The deadline for submission is March 20, 2020. All eligible students are encouraged to apply!

Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship

Hello senior female students! Here is a scholarship for you if you are planning on "pursuing a major that uses technology that is designed to make the world a better place."

MLK Choir Scholarship

Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation's (HHF) 2019 Youth Awards educational grants program is now accepting applications! Their 21st Annual Youth Awards will award students who are in the graduating Class of 2020 with up to $3,500 in educational grants to fund their higher education or to fund a community-based project. Recipients will be selected for their accomplishments in the classroom, community and for their excellence in various educational categories. Apply online by Tuesday, October 15.

Scholarships for 2018-19

SD Foundation Common Application

The San Diego Foundation will be rolling out it's Common Scholarship Application on December 5th. This one application will have 145 different scholarship opportunities. ACSA Scholarship

Download application here. Due date: April 15

In an effort to encourage outstanding future education leadership, the Region 18 Association of California
School Administrators (ACSA) and San Diego County School Boards Association will provide five $1,000 college/university scholarships for high school seniors who meet the following criteria:

  1. show proven academic success with at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average;
  2. are involved in community service;
  3. who may not necessarily qualify for other financial aid, and
  4. are pursuing a career in education as a teacher or other certificated employee.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

MEA families. Here is a scholarship to keep in mind specifically for children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited school - whether that be a trade school, career training, community college, or four-year university. The scholarship application is for the 2019-2020 academic year opened on January 1, 2019 and will close on March 1, 2019.

Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship

Seniors looking to pursue a STEM major in college can go to https://lockheedmartin.com/scholarship to apply for a renewable $10,000 scholarship. The deadline is March 12, 2019. Good luck.

Scholarships for SDSU Applicants

The scholarships below are for SDSU applicants awaiting decision on their Fall 2019 admission. The submission deadline for all of these is March 29, 2019.

California Retired Teachers Association Scholarship

  • Eligible students are seniors with a 3.2 or higher GPA, who have demonstrated leadership skills, participation in extra-curricular activities, community and volunteer service and financial need.
  • Applicants must plan on attending a 4 year university in the Fall of 2019

Torch Award Essay Scholarship for Seniors and Juniors

Offered through the Better Business Bureau
The Better Business Bureau is currently accepting applications for the 2018 Torch Awards for Ethics Scholarship Program. This program is open to all members of the graduating class of 2019 and 2020, with five cash scholarships being awarded. Students who write the best essays over "The Importance of Ethics and Integrity in our Community" will be awarded in conjunction with their annual Torch Awards for Ethics event that honors ethical businesses within the community. Scholarships for 2017-18

David Rubenstein Scholarshp

The David Rubenstein scholarship is looking for students of Jewish descent who demonstrate a financial need and plan on attending an approved college, university or vocational school in the Fall of 2018.

MLKCCSD Scholarship

Scholarships are offered by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Choir San Diego (MLKCCSD). If you will be majoring in the areas of visual and performing arts, apply for a chance at scholarships ranging from between $1,500-$3,500. March 5th is the deadline.

CalRTA Scholarship

The California Retired Teachers' Association (CalRTA) is offering $2,000 scholarships to students. The deadline to apply is March 21st.

Common Scholarship Application

The San Diego Foundation has announced that their Common Scholarship Application is now open and runs through February 1. This application offers students access to more than 100 scholarships and is the premier San Diego scholarship opportunity each year for Seniors in San Diego.

Completing this scholarship is a lengthy process and some students may require adult assistance. Mr. Zappala will talk more in-depth about the scholarship when he meets with all seniors about financial aid this Thursday at 11:55 in the computer lab.

SD Chinese Women's Association Scholarship

The San Diego Chinese Women's Association (SDCWA) offers $1,500 college scholarships open to male and female students graduating by June 2018, with a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA. The applicant must be at least one-quarter Chinese descent. Please note that the due date is March 2, 2018.

Salute to Education Scholarship

Brought to you by the San Diego County Ford Dealers
Scholarships are based on student's community/school activities, personal character, goals and faculty recommendations. There are many academic and vocational categories through which to apply. Deadline is February 16, 2018.

Sons of Italy Scholarships

Seniors, here are 2 scholarships through the Sons of Italy. One is an academic scholarship, the other is an Italian language study grant. The deadline is March 1. Good luck.

Boston University Scholarship

Seniors, if you are thinking about applying to Boston University, here is a scholarship you might be interested in, the Boston University Trustee scholarship.

Coca-Cola Scholarship

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is looking for 150 incredible high school seniors who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others. Students who are selected as Coca-Cola Scholars will receive a $20,000 scholarship to the college of their choice, and will be welcomed into a community of nearly 6,000 program alumni.

Students may apply on the Foundation's website from now through October 31 at 5 p.m. Eastern. Applicants must be high school seniors with at least at 3.0 GPA, and full eligibility requirements are available on the website.

AXA Achievement Scholarship

The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college. The scholarship is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA US. The deadline is December 15th but only 10,000 applications will be accepted, so apply early! Good luck.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Hi Seniors! Apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and show how your volunteer efforts are making a difference in your community! Deadline is 11/7/17.

BBB Scholarships for Juniors

Hello class of 2018 and 2019! Try your hand at this BBB scholarship. There are not too many scholarships available to juniors so don't let this one go by. Also, here is a good opportunity to get involved. Look into the student ambassador program, and begin building or demonstrating your leadership skills. The deadline is October 17, 2017. Colleges love to see this quality in their applicants!!!! Good luck!

Scholarships for 2016-17

Henry Williams Scholarship

Seniors! Here is another scholarship opportunity. Go to calcoastcu.org and scroll to about halfway down the screen on the right side to "what's new." There you will find scholarships for college bound high school seniors. Click there, then again on scholarship and criteria. Fill out the application and respond to the prompt and you are done. California Coast credit union will give out (2) $2,500 scholarships and (10) $1,000 scholarships. In addition to these scholarships, the credit union will also be awarding scholarships to students who are or have been in the foster youth program Good luck.

Here is a rare "need based" scholarship opportunity. Students planning on attending a college or University in San Diego county should apply. Because this is a need based scholarship candidates need to have first completed the FAFSA.
